Android Versions: The Essentials of the Android Operating System
Android operating system (OS) is a mobile operating system currently being developed by Google, it is based on the Linux Kernel and was primarily designed for touch screen mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets and now android is also available for wearable smart devices like smart watches.
Android version 1.0: Good at that time now it’s obsolete.
Android version 1.1 ( Petit Four): brought updates and bug fixes to android version 1.0, good at that time but now far too outdated.
Android version 1.5 ( Cupcake): Updated version of version 1.1, added new features and bug fixes as well as new UI elements and started the trend of naming android version based on edible items. Good at that moment but now it’s outdated.
Android version 1.6 (Donut) : Updated version of android version 1.5 which included addition of new features in a large amount like easier searching options, inclusion of various apps like gallery. It was good its launch but now it’s outdated as well.
Android 2.0 (Eclair): updated version of 1.6, now obsolete.
Android version 2.2 (Froyo): updated version of android 2.0, currently it’s outdated as well.
Android version 2.2.1 onwards to 2.2.3 were only based on updates and bug fixes.
Android version 2.3 (Gingerbread): Updated user interface, support for large screen devices, inclusion of superior copy paste functionality, Near Field Communication (NFC). At the moment it's usable but still updated it really depends on your phones hardware.
Android version 2.3.1 till 2.3.7 all included updates and bug patches with several improvement regarding the operating system.
Android version 3.0 (Honeycomb): This version of android was tablet based. At the current moment it is still usable but not preferable.
Android version 3.1 till 3.2.6 all brought fixes and inclusion of new features.
Android version 4.0 till 4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich): This updated version of android brought major improvements and changes to the android operating system. At current time it's usable but outdated.
Android version 4.1-4.3.1 (Jelly Bean): At this point of the android operating system, the android ecosystem was finally taken notice of. This version of android brought smoothness and stability to the android operating system. At the current time it's usable, but outdated.
Android version 4.4-4.4.4 (Kit Kat): This version of android was a big improvement over the previous version it brought much stability and improvement over the prominent android operating system.
Android version 4.4 W-4.4W.2: This was the version of android which only associated with wearable technology like smart watches.
Android version 5.0-5.1.1 (Lollipop): This version of android brought visual advancement, software improvement and stability. At the current time lollipop is a good choice but still it has been outdated by its new counterpart.
Android 6.0 (Marshmallow): This version of android is an improvement over the previous version with a particular update which improves battery life.
These were the android versions of the android operating system from the year 2008 to the year of 2015 dated DEC 29/2015.
